Ecole Mixte Aide Aux Enfants de la Cite Soleil
Ecole Mixte Aide Aux Enfants de la Cite Soleil is a kindergarten through eighth grade school which was founded in 1988. Its founder, Dieufaite Gary Guerrier, left Haiti in 1993 to join his wife, Nerlande Louis Guerrier, in the United States. A pastor and teacher took on the responsibility of continuing to run the school.
However, over time, parents could no longer continue to pay tuition or help with the upkeep of the school.
The Children’s Project For Haiti has made a commitment to help this community rebuild their school and
help it to continue to serve the children of Cite Soleil. It is now formally operating for fifty, first through fourth grade students, and the director is receiving daily additional registration requests from parents. With the support of The Children's Project for Haiti, community members have made building repairs and built student desks, benches
and blackboards. Students now have new books and school supplies. With the devastation in Haiti as a result of the earthquake, their doors will be open to any child who needs a safe place to learn.
Here is a breakdown of some major costs: Tuition: $30.00 per year, per child
Books and Supplies: $35.00 per year, per child
Uniforms: $15.00 per year, per child
Ecole Mixte Aide Aux Enfants Feeding Center
The Children's Project for Haiti understands that it is difficult for children to learn when they are feeling the effects of hunger. We are currently working to open a feeding center adjacent to the school. The project will cost approximately $8,500 and will include the purchase of the building and renovations for food shortage, food preparation and a serving area.
