We know that by empowering children through education and vocational training and enlisting the support of their communities in the process, we can help build self-sufficient individuals and fight the effects of poverty and violence.

Philosophy
Community-based education means that the community surrounding a school is involved in the building or rebuilding of the school as well as its daily operation. In addition, we ask that the school and its community contribute twenty percent of all costs in either labor, materials or funding. We believe that by working directly with the community we serve and enlisting their support, we can engage and encourage their active participation. Through this process, a sense of responsibility and accountability for the progress of the school can be achieved.
Community members are hired to do the work. Qualified teachers living in the neighborhood serve as the instructors, and all supplies and services required for the project come directly from those residing in that community. This involvement serves to create a sense of ownership. Unlike many other nonprofits, we are not simply giving a handout, we are fostering a sense of community ownership of the projects we initiate.
